Copa Melbourne
Programada: 4 de Noviembre, 2008
Esta competencia de caballos es conocida como la más prestigiosa en su categoría de “dos millas” en el mundo de las carreras de caballos y en Australia donde tiene lugar y es sumamente importante.
La Copa Melbourne tiene lugar el primer martes de cada mes de noviembre y en ella participan caballos de tres años de edad en adelante que correrán una distancia de 3.200 metros.
La carrera tuvo lugar por primera vez en 1861 y el tiempo record lo mantiene el ganandor de 1990 Kingston Rule con un tiempo registrado de 3 minutos y 16.3 segundos.
A través de los años el evento se ha abierto a participantes extranjeros especialmente durante la última década.
La competencia premia con el trofeo tradicional desde 1919; una copa de tres agarraderas de oro con un valor de $80,000 y un cheque por AUD$5 millones (cerca de USD$4.4 millones).
